Did you know your grandparents liked Elvis? I didn’t
This month, Elvis Presley would have celebrated his 85th birthday. While listening to the radio in the car, I heard the announcer say how his music has been enjoyed across generations. It’s true.
It reminded me of one Saturday evening in my first year of University at McGill all the way back in the last millennium. I was at my grandparents’ house, enjoying some evening television and they were out with friends (yes, they are both far cooler than I have ever been). While channel surfing between programs, Jailhouse Rock started - the Elvis Presley classic from 1957.
The came home as the film started and when they saw it, they were both excited to see it and surprised hat I was watching it. Long story short: They got ready for bed at lightning speed and watched it with me.
This is one of my fondest memories. What about you? Do your grandparents like Elvis? If you can, I highly recommend asking and, iff possible, take an afternoon or evening and watch Jailhouse Rock with them. It’s a good watch.
Thanks a lot to Life.com for putting this up on Facebook for The King’s birthday on Jan 8.
